MATERIAL RESEARCH
With the landscape being the inspiration for my work it makes sense that I turn to the land for my materials. Much of my work is created using site-specific clay, also known as ‘wild-clay’. This material is dug from a site close to my studio and processed by hand, accessing the rich clay deposits of the area. Formed during the same volcanic actions that brought the quartz and gold seams to the earths surface, discovery of this rich and plastic Ballarat clay has prompted a deep dive into this material and it’s possibilities to transform not only my own practice but the landscape of ceramic artists on a large scale.
